Training Worshipers for Our World

Worship Academy exists to train worshipers for the ministry, the home, and the workplace. Founded in 2008 at Hatfield Christian Church by Gerben and Mieke Grooten, Worship Academy works to see God glorified everywhere His people find themselves—because worship happens everywhere!

Gerben & Mieke Grooten

Our founders. Drawing from a rich journey through many disciplines, this couple can instruct on leading worship, music directing, conducting, team dynamics, vocal technique, percussion, piano, conflict management, worship theology... just to scratch the surface!

Nèhèmie Munduku

One of Worship Academy's lead facilitators, Nèhèmie is a drummer, acoustic guitarist, bass player, music director, entrepreneur and teacher.

Luke van der Merwe

Currently the gathering hub coordinator for Hatfield Christian Church, Luke has been a worship leader, music director,  composer, arranger and freelance musician.

Rozanne Pienaar

Rozanne studied vocals and piano at the University of the Free State and is the staff music director for Hatfield Christian Church. A 2019 alumnus, Rozanne teaches on a number of topics for Worship Academy, including music theory and vocal coaching .

Mike Noviskie

Mike is missionary and songwriter who volunteers as a lead facilitator for Worship Academy as well as a music director at Hatfield Christian Church. Mike has previously spent twelve years as a worship pastor in Texas as well as worked in the nonprofit space.

Rob Prinsen

Rob is a technical lead for Hatfield Christian Church. He is an accomplished sound engineer, events coordinator, drummer, percussionist, and percussion instructor.

Full-Time Worship Academy

Directed at young people with a worship calling on their lives, the full-time academy is our flagship course offering. It covers the following topics:

  • worship theology

  • musical styles and interpretation

  • listening abilities

  • song writing and recording

  • rehearsal techniques

  • team dynamics

 

Over the years the full-time academy has attracted students from many vocations and many nations. Singers, musicians, painters, photographers, writers and graphic designers (to name but a few) have come from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Switzerland, South Korea, and the United States. All are welcome!

Application process

Please take careful note of the content required on the application form. After we have received your form you will be invited for an interview, which allows us to get to know one another and creates a personal point of connection to facilitate the application and intake process.

Date: 11 February (subject to change) - 27 June 2024

Cost: R18 000 excluding accommodation

Class times: Monday - Thursday, 09:00 - 13:00, Tuesday evenings 19:00-22:00

Modular Worship Academy

Covering much of the same material as the full-time academy, our modular academy is aimed at people who have full-time commitments but still would like input and discipleship. Modular Worship Academy meets for ten weekends spread out over two years.

Application process

The application for both academies is now the same: just indicate on the form that you'd like to apply for the Modular Worship Academy!

Next intake:

We accept new students for MWA at the beginning of each year. Applications are open for 2024-2025! The first MWA weekend of 2024 is 9-10 February. Apply soon!

 

Cost: MWA is billed on a per-weekend basis, R400 due in advance of each weekend.

Friday evening, 18:45 - 22:00

Saturday, 08:45 - 15:00
